Do you have anything else besides surfboards for sale?
Yes! Other common pieces I make include moon mirrors, skateboards, skimboards, round wooden canvases, and regular canvases. Check the Available Artwork tab in the menu for what's currently available!
What if I love the idea of a surfboard but I do not have the space to hang one?
I suggest ordering a skateboard or a skim board instead! A skateboard is about 30" long and 10" wide and a skim board is typically 38" long and 18" wide. If you don't have the wall space for a surfboard, I can also design the artwork to be vertical where it could sit in a floor stand.
What is the difference between a premade board and a custom board?
A premade board is a board I have designed myself with no outside direction or customization options. The inventory is always varying, but whatever I have available at the current moment can be found here.
A custom board is something YOU design from content, to orientation, to colors! We will have a consultation in order to collaborate on the design; you're able to choose UP TO THREE concepts for art. From there I will get a sketch to you with everything laid out and we can make alterations as needed before I start the artwork. For more details on how to get your own custom board, please follow this link.
What am I allowed to customize on a custom board?
The sky is the limit as far as colors go, and you can let me know if horizontal or vertical art will fit best in your space. For the actual artwork content, you can choose up to 3 things you'd like. Some examples could be a humpback whale and a hibiscus, a sea turtle, some ocean waves and a sunset, or an octopus and some tropical plants. If for some reason I think it will not be enough for the board, I might ask you for more items you'd like to have added in order to better fill the space.
I am big on symbolism! So even if you have extra concepts that are meaningful to you, I can usually work them into the piece in a smaller way. For example, if you're a music lover I can add music notes to the design in the waves; If you have a beloved pet I can add their name in hidden writing or add paw prints to the design work.
Is your art all original or do you mass produce?
Although I have repeated the same concept on multiple boards before, they are NEVER going to be an exact replica of a previous artwork. Since they are all done by hand, there are many variations and differences from board to board so that no two will ever be the same.
All mandalas are always going to be different too, none will ever look the same as another board's mandala.
Not. Even. Once!
What is the whole process for getting a custom board?
1. Once you're ready to move forward with a custom board, we will get your deposit handled to secure your board and a place in my queue.
2. I will then give you an estimation for completion based on how far out I'm booked up with projects.
3. We will discuss your ideas in detail for what you'd like to see as far as the design so I can align myself with your vision.
4. I will take your requests to my sketchbook and get you a rough draft of what the board would look like completed.
5. When you're next in the queue, I will ask you for any other last minute changes you may have had and then move forward with the art!
6. Once your project is done I will package and ship it. (This is when the shipping is due)
How long do I have to change any artwork I might want?
You can change the artwork UP UNTIL I start on your project, then once I have began the artwork I'm unfortunately not able to accommodate any changes after that.
Do I have to supply my own surfboard?
No! I have lots of boards of different shapes and sizes, and the board is included in the pricing.
Where do you get the boards from?
They are all up cycled surfboards, previously loved by surfers! I go out and collect them myself, and sometimes even dumpster dive for them. But they are all cleaned up and nice and polished, so they're all ready for art by the time I start my projects! I spend a lot of time turning them around by cleaning them, sanding them down, and spray painting them to bring them back to life to create your custom art!
Are the boards surfable?
The boards are NOT surfable or water bound. They have been loved (and sometimes crashed) by surfers, so they're deemed trash for the most part. I then take them when they're on their last leg and give them a second life by turning them into art.
How long does each board take to make?
Each board takes about 40 hours total to make, depending of course on varying detail work.
Do you seal the artwork?
The boards are clear coated to protect the artwork, but they are not professionally sealed where they could be taken into the water. Once the art is done, I spray a UV resistant clear top coat to seal in the artwork and protect from scratching any off.
Can I hang the artwork outdoors or in the sun?
Although the boards are sprayed with a "UV resistant" clear top coat, I WOULD NOT recommend ever hanging them directly in the sun. The sun will bring damage to almost anything in comes in contact with, so I would recommend at least keeping it in the shade to avoid yellowing if you're planning on hanging it outside. The best place will always be indoors, out of the sunshine.
What would you consider your best art?
My best artwork consists of animals, ocean life, plants, buildings, and mandalas. I can pretty much do everything except for people, unless they are just a silhouette in the distance. People and portraits are not my specialty at all, however animals and plants are!
Why mandalas?
I love their representation of how everything in our universe is connected and our survival is contingent upon the strength of others around us. The center of the mandala represents the self, and it grows and becomes bigger and more intricate with detail just as our connection outside of the self grows in the same way. Mandalas represent ourselves being connected to everything else around us, and I really love carrying that message throughout my art!
How many concepts can I choose for custom art?
I will at first ask for THREE concepts, but it's possible I will check back with you on one or two more in order to lay out the artwork in a cohesive flow. I like to start with three because it's just more manageable, then usually there will be opportunity to add more details or symbolism if it's important to you!
What payment methods do you take?
I take Venmo, PayPal, or credit card.
Am I able to split up my payments or is it due all at once?
The first deposit is always $500, but the rest of the payment can be split up into 2 or 3 payments if you need it to be! Some people like to just get their second payment in and not have to worry about a payment schedule, and others would prefer to space it out over the coarse of the artwork being worked on. So it's up to you, I'm very flexible with that!
What size are the surfboards?
The surfboards are usually around 5'11 to 6'5 in length and around 20 inches in width, with a height of around 6 inches (due to the curve of the nose). I also have long boards available, but I try to keep the shipping cost as low as possible for you so I don't use the long boards unless they are specifically requested. If I am shipping a board to you, I will usually try to choose the smallest and lightest board to keep it as price friendly as possible!
How do you ship surfboards?
I use FedEx to ship the boards and I do everything I can to keep the cost down for you. I buy the boxes and wrapping materials separate, take it all home to package it myself, and then take it back to ship it; this way there isn't the packaging and materials charge to you. I do not add anything to FedEx's total, so it can vary from day to day depending on what they are charging at the time.
